Opponent Preview

The BYU Cougars come into tonight’s game with a record of 1-1-1 on the season and currently reside in 2nd place in the Central Pacific Division, two points behind Burlingame. A win by the Cougars would vault them into first place in the division after four games.

The Cougars are a physical, yet technical team that gave the Dragons quality games last season. Offensively, they have struggled so far this season as they have only scored one goal as a team in three games. They will look to correct that against the Dragons.

The Cougars are led offensively by winger Pedro Vasconcelos. The crafty winger uses his creativity to help drive the Cougar offense. The Dragons will have to be careful whenever he is near the play, as he only needs a moment to produce a magical result.

On the back end, the Cougars defense revolves around the goalkeeper Brendan Ottman. In three games, the Cougars have scored one goal, yet have accumulated four points. This is the byproduct of some stellar goalkeeping and Ottman will have to be at his very best to keep the Dragons off of the scoresheet to produce a positive result.

The crowds at BYU South Field tend to be energetic and create an atmosphere that will prove to be challenging for the Dragons as their road show continues. Taking the crowd out of the game early on will be critical if the Dragons look to continue their winning ways and begin to put a stranglehold on the top spot in the Central Pacific Division. The drama that surrounds a battle for first place taking place in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah will provide a fantastic setting for Saturday night’s game.
