Dragons Rout the L.A. Laguna 4-0, Continue Undefeated Start to the Season

Brace from Matt Wiesenfarth Propels the Dragons to Victory in Los Angeles

The Burlingame Dragons walked away with another three points after a dominant performance at Citrus College against new PDL side LA Laguna. The first goal came midway through the first half as Matt Wiesenfarth capitalized on a failed clearance by the goalkeeper, side footing a half volley into an open net from 20 yards out. Two minutes before the first half ended the Dragons doubled their lead after a great build up, ending with midfielder Romario Piggott switching the field and finding an open Manny Cazares. Cazares cut inside onto his right foot and curled a beautiful shot off of the inside of the post and in.

In the second half the Dragons continued to boss the game, and in the 58th minute a cracking strike from Romario Piggott clanked off the crossbar, but Weisenfarth was on hand to confidently volley home the rebound, bagging his second of the day. Just a few minutes later substitute Ugo Uche was dragged down in the box, and the ref pointed to the spot. Fellow substitute Jamael Cox finished the penalty with ease, slotting the ball into the side netting leaving the goalkeeper no chance. The backline, led by another strong performance from center back Josh Smith, didn’t give LA Laguna a chance, and collected their second clean sheet of the season. Six points out of six from two away games have the Dragons off to a great start of the season.

The Dragons next match will be Wednesday May 11th at 7PM versus the Sacramento Gold (NPSL) at Capital Christian HS in Sacramento, CA. This will be the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The next league (PDL) match for the Dragons will be Saturday May 21st versus the BYU Cougars in Provo, UT.
