Dragons FC Sign New Zealand U-20 National Team Defender Brock Messenger

One of the Top Young Talents in New Zealand Joins the Club for the PDL Season

Brock Messenger scores the goal of the season in the New Zealand Premier League for Canterbury United

The Burlingame Dragons Football Club is pleased to announce that defender Brock Messenger has signed for the organization for the upcoming 2016 PDL season. The tough and opportunistic defender is in camp with the team this week at Menlo College, as practice has commenced prior to the season’s opening game next Friday in Fresno.

Messenger played last season for Canterbury United in the ASB Premiership, the top professional division in New Zealand. He played in 12 games, scoring once for the Dragons. The 6’0, 175 lb. defender showed his versatility playing as an outside back and as a center back when called upon to do so. Messenger has played the last three seasons in the ASB Premiership, totaling 33 appearances and scoring three times for Canterbury United and Wanderers FC.

Messenger also played for the nation of New Zealand in the FIFA U-20 World Cup. He started and played 77 minutes in a 5-1 win over Myanmar.

He is seen by many, including his club coach Willy Gerdsen, as one of the best young talents in all of New Zealand. “Brock is a modern attacking wing back who is strong in defense, but is comfortable going forward, so he will add a valuable dimension to our squad,” Gerdsen said when he acquired Messenger this season.
