Dragons Brian Wright & Brian Nana-Sinkam Drafted in the 1st Round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft
The Burlingame Dragons were well represented at the 2017 MLS SuperDraft on Friday in Los Angeles. With four players eligible to be selected, chances were high that the day would end with multiple Dragons being selected by MLS clubs. Josh Smith, Brian Nana-Sinkam, Christian Thierjung & Brian Wright all were eligible to be selected on Day One of the draft.
With the 20th overall selection in the 1st round, the New England Revolution selected Dragons forward Brian Wright. “Everything just seemed so surreal, like you always kind of dreamed of it as a kid,” Wright said Friday night. “It’s an amazing opportunity, I’m really grateful to be in the position I am and I want to thank the Revs for giving me this opportunity.” Wright was one of four NCAA seniors to sign with MLS last week ahead of the league’s annual pre-draft combine, a marker of his elite evaluation by the league among the crop of graduating college players.
With the 22nd overall selection in the 1st round, the Seattle Sounders selected Dragons defender Brian Nana-Sinkam. Nana-Sinkam is the third defender taken by Seattle in the first round of the draft, with Damion Lowe taken No. 8 in 2014 and Andrew Duran taken No. 15 in 2012.
The 3rd and 4th rounds of the draft will continue on Tuesday.
