Burlingame Dragons FC Win First Open Cup Game in Franchise History

The Burlingame Dragons defeated El Farolito this afternoon 6-5 on penalty kick's to advance to the 2nd Round of the U.S. Open Cup. The Dragons advance to face the San Francisco Deltas (NASL) on Wednesday May 17, 7pm at Cagan Stadium in Palo Alto, CA.

The Dragons had several good opportunities to take the lead in the first half. Most notably, Khalid Arramdani nearly got on the end of a cross from Gabe Silveira in the 30th minute but went just wide. The game went into the half tied at zero. The second half opened with a game changing moment as Luis Nieves of El Farolito was given a red card in the 52nd minute for a two footed challenge. For the rest of the match, and into extra time the game was firmly in the Dragons control. With several near misses, and quality saves by the El Farolito keeper, the game ended 0-0 and went to penalty kicks. Several outstanding saves by Dragons keeper Mitchell North, and a game winning penalty from Ben Simon solidified the first ever Open Cup victory in franchise history for the Dragons.
