Burlingame Dragons FC Sign Paul Blanchette, Riley Hanley

Stellar Goalkeeper, Clinical Midfielder Look to Contribute in Burlingame

The Burlingame Dragons are announcing today the signings of goalie Paul Blanchette and midfielder Riley Hanley for the 2016 Premier Development League season.

Blanchette started the Dragons first two games of this season, notching shutouts in both games leading the Dragons to a 2-0 start. His solid play in Fresno and his leadership in L.A. have provided confidence for the team to go forward and put the ball in the back of the net.

The 6’4, 195 lb.  keeper played at Loyola Marymount University where he concluded his career in 2015. He was the two-time West Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and two-time All-WCC Second Team honoree. The Palo Alto, CA native holds the LMU record for single-season shutouts (8) and career shutouts (19). His 26 career wins rank him first all time in program history. 

In 2015, Blanchette started 15 of 18 matches and went 9-6-0 with eight shutouts. He had a 1.06 goals against average and won WCC Player of the Week twice during the season. 

Hanley started in the midfield in Sunday’s game against the L.A. Laguna, playing the full 90 minutes and providing the steel and grit in the middle of the pitch that helped will the Dragons to victory. 

The St. Mary’s (CA) College product had his most productive season for the Gaels in 2014, when he played in 20 games and scored two goals while notching one assist. 

The Los Altos, CA native played his high school soccer at Mountain View High School and was named the 2011 All Daily News Player of the Year.

The 5’10, 165 lb. center midfielder is a box to box player that uses his passing ability and stellar vision to open up defenses while providing defensive cover for the back four. Hanley’s experience will provide the Dragons with more depth at an already deep position for the organization.
