Opponent Preview

Sacramento Gold FC comes into the U.S. Open Cup playing some very good soccer. The Gold sits in 1st place in the Golden Gate Conference of the National Premier Soccer League. Sacramento is 5-2 in league play, their five game winning streak recently snapped by the CD Aguiluchos of Oakland in a 5-3 loss this past weekend.

The Gold have a balanced scoring attack that has seen six players score in double digits this season. Midfielders Sammy Gonzalez and Jose Martinez lead the team with three goals apiece. Multiple defenders have also chipped in with offensive support as Rene Pina and Erick Vega have scored from defensive positions this season.

Ruben Mora’s team is off to a great start, but if their team has shown any weakness, it is in their defensive third of the field as they have surrendered seven goals in seven games. They will need to tighten their defense against a Dragons team that has plenty of attacking options on Wednesday night.

Two Sac Gold FC players do have a history with the Dragons asforward Chimdum Mez and Andre Brown both spent some time with the Dragons during the 2016 preseason.
