Five Dragons FC Players Soar into NCAA Final Four
Stanford returns to the Final Four for the 2nd Consecutive Season
The Burlingame Dragons FC are proud to recognize the five Stanford Cardinal players who have returned to the NCAA Men’s Final Four for the 2nd consecutive season. Cardinal Co-Captain’s Brian Nana-Sinkam and Drew Skundrich join Corey Baird, Nico Corti and Amir Bashti as they represent the Dragons in Houston this week.
Stanford did not have it easy in the early rounds of the tournament as they were tested multiple times. The 5th seeded Cardinal played their first game against local challenger the University of Pacific and defeated the Tigers 2-0 in the 2nd Round. Next up, the Cardinal defeated the 12th seeded Virginia Cavaliers in extra time by the score of 1-0. Last weekend, the Cardinal traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to take on the 4th seeded Cardinals and defeated them by a score of 2-0. Three clean sheets has been the most important factor in leading Stanford to Houston and a chance at back-to-back National Championships.
The Cardinal are joined in Houston by 2nd seeded Wake Forest, 6th seeded Denver and 9th seeded North Carolina. First up for the Cardinal are the North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday, December 9th. The game can be seen on ESPNU at 5:45 PST. If the Cardinal wins the semi-final, the National Championship game will be held on Sunday, December 11th at 11:00am PST on ESPNU.
On another note, defender Brian Nana-Sinkam and midfielder Drew Skundrich were named to the NSCAA Division I All-West Region 2nd Team on Tuesday. Nana-Sinkam has helped lead the Cardinal defensively, limiting opponents to a 0.67 goals against average this season. Nana-Sinkam is one of 10 men's soccer student-athletes selected as a finalist for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes seniors that have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. Skundrich has tallied the first four goals of his career this season, is second on the team in goals and third in points (11).
The Dragons congratulate these five players on their fantastic accomplishments this season
